Sudbury Ontario September 14th, 2009 4:30am

"Was a crystal clear night, around 4:30AM. Was walking home eastward on Larne St. and first spotted flashing red/blue/white light in the sky while I was about at Lorne St. and Martindale Rd. in Sudbury Ontario. The light was to the South East, about 30 no more than 40 degrees above the horizon. At first I thought it was an aircraft but being a pilot, I realized that A) the lights are the wrong colors, and B) I should not be seeing alternating between white, blue and red. Additionally, the intensity seemed to be transitioning from very bright to not so bright, and there didn't seem to be a pattern to to it, it seemed sort of random transitions between colors and intensity - it would get quite bright, several times brighter than the brightest stars, and it would dim to about the brightness of the stars. It got my attention and I kept walking, and stopped at a point where the object was between myself and a grid of overhead wires. I used the wires as a guage to judge how fast it was moving, and stood there for a half hour and more and there was no movement whatsoever, I braced my head against a rail and got the object just next to one of the wires, there was definitely no movement whatsoever. It was definitely not an antenna lights or something, there's nothing there, just open sky, I walk that way route  the time. I would say that if the object was roughly the size of small aircraft or so, I would say it was somewhere roughly above Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, Moonlight Beach area.

This map will show the general area:

I stood there for at least 30 minutes wondering what in the heck it could be, it was definitely not an aircraft. Finally, I decided I have to get home and get some sleep because the kids would be up in about 30 minutes, I kept an eye on it all the way home and it continued to flash, but did not move. I'm kicking myself I didn't go and get my 400mm lens and get a couple photos. I cannot explain what the object was, there is no explanation in aviation for this kind of object. I was always skeptical of UFOs, but I cannot come up with any other reasonable explanation for what I saw. I'm regretting I didn't stay and observe it longer and maybe get to see it move, or go and grab my camera or something (mind you that would have woken up the wife and been a whole "thing"), I was more just going through my mind and trying to understand what it was I was looking at, plus it was 4:30AM after a 12 hour shift."

The witness sent us the following correction:

...I just posted a sighting in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

As I started filling out the form, I originally said that it was roughly over Hwy #69 ( I posted a map of the area in the text part)

Then after looking at the map and going and verifying the angle, it would have been more toward Moonlight Beach,  from where I was between Lorne St. and Martindale, and Lorne St. and Regent St.
