You are here: And So It Begins.... Ghosts & Hauntings The Brechin Light
Brechin Ontario is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Toronto on the eastern shores of Lake Simcoe. Whilst there hasn't been any reports in a long time it was home to a series of "ghostlights with the first known sightings occurring at the turn of the 19th century." Reports included a "football sized" light that was accompanied by a loud-buzzing sound. Similar to reports of what we now call ball lightening. The "ghostlights" appeared to favour railway tracks and crossings - once apparently stopping the Grand Trunk train! It was also blamed for entering a room in the Brechin Hotel and terrifying a guest. It has been described by those who have claimed to witness it as a "ball of fire that plays along the shoreline of eastern Lake Simcoe."

Update September 2009
I am writing to mention that the Brechin Hotel in Brechin, Ontario, no longer exists. The hotel was situated where a Coffee Time now stands, at the corner of Highways 12 and 47. The west end of Brechin, on the shore of Lake Simcoe, is known as "Lagoon City".
Our thanks to our reader for the above information. We appreciate it.
